Apple Tablet: What we know...

By Clev.1

It’s looking more and more likely that Apple will release a 10-inch tablet computer in early 2010.

Even if you’re sick of Apple tablet rumors, we promise you’ll like this one. The latest update comes from a tipster with a solid track record, which reinforces previous reports that Apple will deliver a tablet in early 2010. The tipster also shares details on the rumored product’s specifications.

ILounge, an iPod and iPhone blog, cites a source who claims Apple plans to announce a tablet by Jan. 19, 2010. The tipster claims the tablet will measure 10.7 inches (diagonally) and will run the iPhone operating system.

The tablet will sport a higher resolution than the iPhone or iPod Touch screen: “Expect something like 5-6 times the resolution of an iPod Touch or iPhone screen (720p or thereabouts) and 7 times the touchable surface area,” writes iLounge.

Also, there will be one version equipped with 3G networking and one without. This would make the 3G model a bigger version of the iPhone, and the non-3G tablet a larger iPod Touch.

This particular report raises the likelihood of an Apple tablet landing in stores soon. ILounge says this is the same source who was spot on when leaking details on the fifth-generation iPod Nano prior to its Sept. 9 launch. That same source was also accurate with its description of the fourth-generation iPod Nano before its release.

ILounge’s source also said the tablet would specialize “as a slate-like replacement for books and magazines.” Wired.com in previous months has argued that an Apple tablet would pose a serious threat to the Amazon Kindle as well as the Amazon.com e-book store. We speculated that Apple could integrate an e-book section into the iTunes Store, giving it the potential to shake up the publishing industry.

Are you getting overwhelmed by the flurry of tablet news? We don’t blame you. Here are the rumors that have been echoed by several publications:

* Steve Jobs has had a heavy hand in the tablet’s development.
Sources: Wall Street Journal, AppleInsider, Barron’s, iLounge
* The Apple tablet will launch in early 2010.
Sources: AppleInsider, TheLoop, iLounge, Barron’s
* The tablet will look like a larger iPod Touch or iPhone, measuring approximately 10 inches.
Sources: Gizmodo, AppleInsider, Barron’s, iLounge, InfoTimes
* The tablet will cost between $700 and $900, positioning it between the iPhone/iPod Touch and Apple’s notebooks.
Sources: Gizmodo, InfoTimes, Barron’s
* The tablet will come in two versions. Gizmodo’s source claims one model will feature a webcam (perhaps for videoconferencing) while the other will focus on education. A camera-equipped tablet would make more sense on the 3G-equipped tablet described by iLounge’s source; likewise, a camera-less version of the tablet could be the non-3G tablet mentioned by iLounge’s source.
Sources: Gizmodo, iLounge

Have any doubt left in an Apple tablet? We don’t. But there’s so much here that if the tablet turns out to be a media-fabricated illusion, even David Copperfield would be impressed.

HiP HoP: What is real?

By Clev.1
Believe it or not, hip-hop roots have been dated back to as early as 1925. Earl Tucker aka Snake Hips invented a style of dancing that is similar to today's hip-hop dance moves. Similar moves he did would later inspire one element of hip-hop culture, break dancing. In 1950 the Soundclash contest between Coxsone Dodd's "Downbeat" and Duke Reid's "Trojan" started the DJ battling. DJ battling would soon morph into MC battling. Fast forward a few years and before you know it you have DJ Herc hired as a DJ at the Hevalo Club. About that same time DJ Grand Wizard Theodore accidentally invents 'the scratch.'

Hip-hop at this point in time had nothing to do with lyrics. It was all about DJ's either battling or throwing a party on the block for people to dance, or both. (There was the graffiti around this time as well, another elements of the hip-hop culture).

It wasn't too long after the element of emceeing appeared. DJ's would find it too difficult to say things to keep the crowd into it while DJ battling. Which brings me to this... most people say they want old school hip-hop back when there was lyrical ability, and the lyrics meant something, etc. Well I got news for you, old school hip-hop is technically rhyming words such as "cat" with "hat." MC's would basically rap about simple things, for parties and for people to dance to while having a good time. Sounds eerily similar to what is criticized nowadays, doesn't it? Here's another little fun fact: hip-hop got its name from dancing. Rappers or emcees in this time never get brought up when people talk about new school hip-hop vs. old school hip-hop. I personally believe they are excluded because those ignorant fools (I'll elaborate more in a second) know it will ruin their entire argument.

By ignorant fools, I mean (this may become more clear when this is over) those people who believe what they say is right and if you disagree you are wrong. Like so and so is real hip-hop, but Soulja Boy is not. Etc. But they fail to realize, here's the entire point in this blog, REAL HIP-HOP IS A MATTER OF OPINION!!

I cannot stress enough at how many people do not understand that. I never knew that opinions/facts were so vastly complex; some people could not fully grasp and comprehend them. I believe some of these same people need to pay more attention in school and/or go back to school.

Every one has a personal preference and opinion when it comes to hip-hop. Some say Biggie was the greatest of all-time, some say 2Pac is. Some say Lil' Wayne is the best rapper alive; some like pliesgoat(and his other names) are infatuated with Plies. (But with him, he just makes idiotic statements doing so) But the fact is, whoever you believe is the greatest of all-time or best rapper alive is just your opinion. And you are not wrong, just like nobody else is wrong for their opinion. That goes the same for "real hip-hop".

If you chose to believe Rakim, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Tupac, Big L, etc. (some of my favorite rappers) are real hip-hop and Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Hurricane Chris, Weezy F. Baby, etc. are not. (I like all of them to a certain extent as well, I hate Weezy now though but that is a different story for a different time). That is all fine and dandy, but don't go around and say someone who believes Soulja Boy is real hip-hop is wrong and call them idiots. And then go as far as to say you don't know anything about hip-hop and you don't listen to real hip-hop. You are an ignorant cretin if you do this. This isn't 100% related, but to an extent it is.

Soulja Boy said on, I believe it was DJ Skee show, "That some people listen to a certain type of hip-hop which consider real hip-hop and that Soulja Boy doesn't fit that." He did not say he isn't real hip-hop, he said by their definition of real hip-hop, he is not that. But there is no set answer to what real hip-hop. Who comes up with what is real hip-hop and what isn't? YOU DO! Each person decides for themselves. This isn't some shit like "2+2 = 4". That is a set answer that you cannot argue. But hip-hop does not have that.

Nas said himself he likes some radio shit and club music, like Soulja Boy. But people who are real hip-hop ignorant fools like to, basically not acknowledge it. Some may even get upset with Nas for his opinion. I'd also like to add how it is funny that these ignorant fools consider KRS-One hip-hop, but never seem to acknowledge the fact KRS welcomed Soulja Boy to hip-hop. Some will even go as far as saying, "well what gives him the right to say what is hip-hop and what isn't." If you do not see the connection I have been trying to make this entire time and with that last part, slap yourself. None of this should have gone over any single person's head.

I hope after reading this some people will begin to open their minds and realize the difference between opinions and facts. You can truly see the world from a different place if you look at it with an open mind. As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."

P.S. Again to clarify, real hip-hop ignorant fools are people who don't understand opinions and facts. I'm not calling people who say Soulja Boy isn't real hip-hop but Rakim is ignorant fools. I'd also like to mention there are a growing number of people who do realize the difference, but there are still an ample amount of people who stay ignorant.

Eminem 3 AM

By Clev.1

WTF is this shit....is he serious??? I feel bad even having this garbage on my blog. Eminem is on the verge of making one of the largest and most anticipated returns in Hip Hop history and this is what he comes with? In my opinion Eminem is behind in times...and not to say that he should change anything about the way he makes his music but he should definitely consider where the game currently is and try and adapt as best he can and still keep it real....

HiP HoP is dead!?!?!? WTF?

By Clev.1

I got to admit..I was for a while walking around saying the same bullshit..."Hip Hop is dead"....then I thought about it after a while. Where the hell did this shit come from!? Then it hit me! My homeboy Nas! He single handily got people to really start believing this shit. In my opinion he should have never said the shit because it created a damn snowball effect. Now he did has some good reason behind making that statement. True music overall is going into a different direction...but why? It simple....music evolves just like everything else in our world does. Take a look at hip hop is the early days and compare it to when Nas was around. It was a completely different style of music. The flow...the rhymes...everything got more complicated with hip hop in the times of Nas...but yet he can come out and say with today music Hip Hop is dead??? Are you serious. Just because Soulja Boi is selling ringtones and making dance songs in no way makes Hip Hop dead. As a matter of fact Soulja Boy basically made a sub genre of Hip Hop. Just as Rock Music has "Alternative Rock" and all of its sub genres. So it only makes sense that Hip Hop has the same. Lets take a look at some older sub genres of Hip Hop. How about Gangsta Rap...or how about your down south "hip hop" music. Now just because it doesn't sound like what some would consider hip hop doesn't mean it doesn't still have the same elements deep within. These dudes are still rappers just like the rappers who consider themselves more hip hop. Its just that they're taking a different approach...and usually this approach is based off of where they live in combination with the current times. Take a look at down south music. Alot of bass....usually not very complicated lyrics and not much of a flow. Question would you consider this Hip Hop...prolly not..but the truth is that it is because it is something that has derived from Hip Hop. Basically as the point I really want to make is that as time goes on shit will change and that includes in music. There are several different variables that would help change this as well. Technology is another thing that can play a major role. The more advanced technology gets in music production there wider variety of sounds you'll start to hear in music. Software based VSTs can emulate the sounds from sound modules dating back to the 90s all the way up to current. So with all of these things playing a role in Hip Hop and music overall how in the hell can you say its dead? Also just because you don't like whats on the radio doesn't mean somethings dead....the people who call and request those songs are usually a younger crowd to begin with. Enough of me ranting tho....I could go on and on...but seriously who ever says Hip Hop is dead really needs to take a step back and really think about that statement before they make it. It hurts Hip Hop and I'm sick of hearing the dumb shit. THANKS ALOT NAS!

The 2009 Grammy's popped off yesterday and it was pretty decent. One of my favorite performances was naturally the Swagger Like Us with Weezy, Ye, Jay and TIP. It was pretty ill to see all those dudes get up on stage and kill it. T.I. last verse in the song though sounded like he kind of messed it up. Other than that the performance was sick...

Why most rappers don't make it.....

By Clev.1
1) You avoid all official documents. If you are an artist this means that you do not maintain split sheets for the songs you write with other artists, you do not register your music with performance rights organizations (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, etc) and you avoid any contractual agreements with your music.
2) You do not have a budget for music. Being an artist requires you to acknowledge the overhead necessary to put out your music. Some of the operating expenses as an artist include: renting studio time, hiring musicians and producers, buying music equipment, photo shoots, graphic design services and music conferences. Additionally many artists overlook the expenses required to stay in touch with their fans, which may include: a laptop, webcam, website, etc.
3) You do not have an understanding of how the music business works. As an artist it is essential that you have a clear understanding of the means to successfully market, promote and distribute your music. You should study material pertaining to how to be an artist, publish music and start a record label, in order to operate in the industry. You should spend just as much time as you do thinking of the business side of your craft as you do the creative; your talent alone will not be enough to get you a million dollar record deal.
4) You think the industry is the same as it was 15 years ago. The music industry is saturated with many talented artists that have dreams of becoming an overnight sensation. Record labels are no longer basing their deals solely on talent; they are now looking for a talented business person to partner with for the long term. Having a record deal in today’s industry often means that you will be putting in a lot of your time and money to complete your album, so do not expect a large advance with your deal.
5) You do not take your music seriously. In order for anyone to take your music serious, you must take it serious first by writing a complete plan for your music projects. The plan should clearly communicate: what you intend to accomplish, how you intend to accomplish it and the resources that will be used. You should not base your level of commitment to your music on how successful your projects are upon their release. You want your fans to take your music seriously as well, so pay attention to the quality and marketing of your projects. Artists that consistently release original music as a “demo” or “mixtape” compromise their fan’s perception of their music.
